Father Benedict believes that it is better to walk among friends in small communities than to walk among strangers in large ones. He says that Lone Tree and Nichols have been a special gift to him from God. "I will miss Father Benedict's presence and spirit within our faith communities," said Carol Kaalburg, Parish Life Coordinator at St. Mary of Nichols and Lone Tree. "He was always gracious and willing to serve our people, as needed. A particular loss will be his kindness and caring for our youth.., he has a special gift in dealing with children." Black light hike set at Kent Park Johnson County area residents may participate in a black light hike in F.W. Kent Park February 10. Johnson County Conservation Board AmeriCorps naturalist, Clay Steele will lead the hike with a black light and luminous powder to track nighttime ani- mals near the Conservation Education Center. The hike will depart at 5 p.m. from the Conservation Education Center and will last about an hour. Coffee and cocoa will be provided. Preregistration is required. Father Benedict joked that when he left Nigeria, he told his family that he was going 'home.' Later he told everyone in the H'all that he wopld like to bring his family back to Iowa, particularly Nichols and Lone Tree, to show them how small-communities know and love one another.
