Thursday, December 3,2015 The Lone Tree Reporter Page 3 S Lincoln Mutual Insurance Association VISIT US ONLINE: WWW.TH ELONETREEREPoRTER.COM Well, HOLY SMOKE, WHOOP- EE, HURRAH and all sorts of pos- itive statements about the Iowa football game last week. It was a weird game on a cold day in Lin- coln. If you looked at just the stats and not the score line you'd have thought Nebraska won. The Husk- ers had the ball over 12 minutes longer than Iowa, ran almost twice as many plays, made twice as many first downs and had al- most 200 more total yards than the Hawks. However, there were a couple of major things in Iowa's favor. They picked up four turnovers and had just a little more than half as much in penalty yards. Really, what else is there to say about this team and this season except a very hearty CONGRATU- LATIONS!!!! You took a new look at life after that very disappointing season a year ago and everybody dug in to turn things around and do it right this year. And did you ever. Iowa's first undefeated team in 93 years. Of course, now you have set your- selves up for a difficult task. That undefeated team in 1922 was the second one in a row. So By Ron Rife The Lone Tree Reporter now, in 127 years of Iowa football, the Hawkeyes have produced four undefeated teams. The 1900 team had one tie, but the 1921 and 1922 teams both had 7-0 records and 5-0 in the Big Ten. And now 2015. Now all you need to do to pos- sibly get a nod from all the skep- tics around the country is do this all over again next year. It would be nice, but the odds are really against it. As I said last week out of all 128 of the FBS teams there are only two who got to the end of the season unbeaten. In alphabeti- cal order, Clemson and Iowa. By the end of next week we'll know if the Big Ten Champion is Iowa or Michigan State. The Spartans really demolished Penn State last weekend. Also, as I said last week, they must have a really solid defense to be able to shut down Ohio State the way they did. Another shakeout from the week- end that didn't really surprise me was the reaction of some Husker fans. I read an article in the Sat- urday World-Herald that com- mented there was a lot of grum- bling among the Big Red faithful, that the coordinators should be fired and some other shaking up be done. Brings back memories of most of the years of Tom Os- borne's reign when I was living out there. Almost every week in the World - Herald's "Voice From The Grandstand" column many people called for the firing of Os- borne, Darlington and McBride. They were to two coordinators. Then, in 1994, when Nebraska won the national championship, those three suddenly became ge- niuses. Just like here last year. My answer to all the stupid know-it-all gripers who wanted to fire all the coaches was "Be care- ful what you wish for. Remember what happened after Tom Davis was forced out." Amazingly, that would slow most of them down and actually shut some up. of LT Auxiliary hosted Mea The officers of the Lone Tree American Legion Auxiliary host- ed a "Paid Up Members Meal in October.
