Page 4 Club News Obituaries Harry R. Jarrard 1907.2003 Harry R. Jarrard, 96 of Lone Tree died Sunday, October 26, 2003 at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. Funeral services for Harry Jarrard will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Rev. Beverly Hovenkamp will officiate the servic- es. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Following services and the cemetery at time of fellowship will be held at the U n i t e d Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Visitation for Harry Jarrard will be held on Tuesday, October Harry R 28, 2003 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sorden- Lewis Funeral Home in Lone Tree. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Harry Riley Jarrard was born March 30th, 1907 in rural ,Conesville, Iowa the son-of Frank W. and Fannie A. (Wall) Jarrard. On August 10th, 1926, Harry was united in marriage to Mildred M. Watson in Muscatine, Iowa. Following her passing, Harry was united in marriage to Iva M. Westaffay Jarrard on July 18th, 1973 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Harry played profes- sional football with the Muscatine Independents from 1925- 1937, playing every position except cen- ter. Back then he played the Green Bay Packers. Following • Harry's football career he worked as a sheet metal worker for Thompson Hardware, Prudential Life Insurance, John Deere Implement, owned and operated Jarrard Grocery in Muscatine, farmed for 8 years in the Lone Tree area then Harry became a plumber for Larew Plumbing and retired from Boyd and Rumrnelhart Plumbing. Harry was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Harry liked to spend his time fishing, but most of all; Jarrard, 96 Harry dearly enjoyed spend- ing time with his family. Harry will be deeply missed by his wife, Iva of Lone Tree, two sons, Eldon L. Jarrard and his wife, Betty of North Liberty and Wayne W. Jarrard and his wife, Wanda of Atalissa; one step-son, William J. Jarrard and his wife, Jean of Moline, Illinois; two step- daughters, Nancy K. Yakish of Lone Tree and Grace I. Yakish and her husband, James of Round Rock, Texas; 22 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 4 great- great grandchildren.. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mildred, one daughter, Marilyn Brumwell, one sister, Velma Shelladay and two brothers, Roy and Leo. Church Women United to sponsor World Community Day The Johnson County unit of familiar to Church Women Church Women United will spon- sor World Community Day on November 7, 2003. The service will be held at First Christian Church, 900 Lincolnshire Place, Coralville. This year's theme "Circles of Love" draws on Sister Miriam Therese Winter's gifts of inspired lyrical writings and songs that are United. Come join us in extending our own circle outward for the sake of justice. Let God's spirit lead us as we consider whom we bring into our Circles of Love. The meeting is open to all. Child care will be provided and the church is handicapped acces- sible. TTT Chapter AR of Lone Tree TIT Chapter AR of Lone Tree held their monthly meeting October 13 at Pioneer Place. Nancy Werbach was hostess and Andrea Brenneman served dessert as co-hostess. President Cathy Sladek brought the business meeting to order with 14 members present. The group discussed the pos- sibility of sending three 4th grade girls to TTT Camp next summer. At the present, two 4th grade girls are sent to TTT Camp each year. The Couples Bridge Marathon will continue, howev- er members decided to discon- tinue the Ladies Marathon due to lack of interest. Everybody was reminded of the Younkers Community Day Event Sale on Saturday, November 22. Members are sell- ing coupons for this event which is the group's only fundraiser. The group also discussed using Pioneer Place as a meeting place on a more frequent basis. The next meeting will be held November 10 at the home of Janet Kautz. Grace Elliott will be the co-hostess. Turkey supper to be held Nov. 8 The United Presbyterian Church of Lone Tree will serve a turkey supper Saturday, Nov. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. Roast turkey, dressing, potatoes and gravy, home grown sweet corn, salads, rolls and homemade pies will be served. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $3.00 for children ages 5 to 12 years. Parent-Teacher conferences have new schedule Parent-teacher Conferences wiil have a new schedule this year. All conferences will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Thursday, Nov. 6 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be no school on Friday, Nov. 7. All first quarter conferences in grades K-5 are scheduled conferences. All 6-12 teachers will be in their class- rooms and available for walk-in conferences at these times. Reminder to Jr. and Sr. High parents: The 2004 Post-Prom meeting will be held Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at the library.
