Nick's blank stare seemed to trouble the. boy a little, but he persisted. "Pandy and I were buddies over- seas. She was smiling, her eyes slightly moist. "Nieky," she ques- tioned, "that boy--he made a bet with Pandopoulos?" Nick nodded and looked out the window, where the sailor was ambling contentedly away. "He is the fourth one already, this. week," she went on. "Maybe he be the last."
