Nine 3rd and 4th graders from the Lone Tree area participated in a 9-team soccer tournament at the end of the regular season in the Iowa City Kickers soccer pro- gram. The first two games of their tournament occurred on May 15, 2010. During their first game, which happened to be against a West Liberty team, they fell to a 3-0 deficit, but fought back to a tie game by hairline. That West Lib- erty team featured an exception, ally large bench compared to the one substitute on the Lone Tree team. Nevertheless, the Lone Tree kids went on to lead the game at several points in the second half, but the game eventually ended in a 6-6 tie. Lone Tree won their sec- ond game of the tournament by a score of 2-1. Their performance in the first two games allowed them a fourth seed in the tournament and a chance to pay for the cham- pionship. The quarter-finals games were played on Saturday, May 22 and the Lone Tree team won the first game by a score of 3-2 against the ournaments #i seeded tea In the championship game, which proved to be the most physical game of the season, the Lone Tree kids took an early lead on a goal from Brandon Feldman, but that was all the offense Lone Tree was able to muster and they fell 2.1, garnering an impressive 2rid place finish in the 9 team tourna. ment. Thoughts from coach Erik Edens, "I am very fortunate to have coached this special team and this great bunch of kids. This team played with tremendous grit and determination all year long.
