Coach Ryan Barnes said he's ex-
cited to see Derek Martinez, a soph-
omore, having the kind of success
he's seen early this season.
"Derek Ma-qnez has been doing
a good job at the plate and he's tak.
ing a lot of balls to the right side
which is exciting," said Coach
Barnes. "He's adapted to our style,
as coaches, seeing kids hit the ball
the other way with authority. He's
definitely one of our surprise kids,
he's only a sophomore and he puts
the extra time in and that's fun to
see."
West Branch 4, Lone Tree 3
The Lions played a close one
against West Branch, losing 4-3 on
Wednesday, June 3.
Lucas Zeman and Derek Marti-
nez provided most of the Lone Tree
offense: Zeman went 24 and scored
one run, while Martinze was 1-3
with a run scored. Nathan Volk
walked three times, stole two bases
and scored a run.
Starting pitcher Lucas Zeman
took the loss in five innings of
work. He allowed two hits and two
earned runs, walked five and struck
out nine.

The Lions hosted their local ri-
vals Highland on Friday evening,
June 5, dropping the first game 6-5.
Chris Holway went 2-4 with one
run scored. Lucas Zeman hit a 2-
run home run in the first inning
and teammate Sean Snyder scored
two runs in the loss.
Nathan Volk pitched seven in-
gave up nine earned runs. Austin
Ronan threw the final two innings
and had one strikeout and gave up
one run.
Lucas Zeman once again led his
team with a 2-3 effort atthe plate.
He notched a triple, four stolen
bases and one run scored.
The Lions are 1-3 in SEISC action
and 2-5 overall.
