Lone Tree Little Lion Wrestling Banquet
Thursda May 14, marked the day
chosen to celebrate the 2008-2009
Little Lion Wrestling season. The
club consists of a diverse bunch
of kids involved in many different
activities, so it was difficult to pick
a night that everyone could attend.
There was a Junior High track meet
taking some of our members away,,
Baseball practices had already
begun, and we had parents that had
to split duties between our banquet
and the Fine Arts banquet.
Coach Jeff Viner welcomed those
that were in attenctance with appre-
ciation of fitting this into everyone's
busy schedules. A potluck was en-
joyed by all and as the meal was
shared, participation awards were
given out to the wrestlers who were
a part of the club. Those wrestlers
that were participants, but also at-
tended more tournaments than just
our own Lone Tree tourney became
members of the Mighty Lions Club
receiving T-shirts with a new de-
sign this year. There were 12 mem-
bers inducted this year. Many of
the Mighty Lion members compet-
ed at District and State competition
tournaments.
A few highlights for the season
were the 1st place team trophy
earned at our own LT tourney, Har-
mon Miller (Kindergarten) plac-
ing 8th at Super PeeWee State, and
Alex Yedlik (6th grader) wrestling
to a 4th place finish at State after
being District Champion to qualify
for State.
Coach Viner encouraged both
wrestlers and parents to contin-
ue to learn from the experiences
gained in wrestling. The beginners
met many challenges learning this
new sport and the young veterans
with our club also were challenged
throughout the season. Each year
the wrestlers seem to get better. It's
amazing to watch how they grow
and f'tre out why takedowns are
taught a certain way or how many

different moves they can learn for
example. It's like a light bulb turns
on and it makes more and more
sense to the wrestlers each new
season. These young wrestlers
were a joy to watch this year and
show many signs of promise for
our wrestling future at Lone Tree
at the Junior High and High School
levels.
Coach Viner thanked all the
parents who helped at practices,
especially Doug Zaruba and Brad
Tripses for helping mainly with the
younger wrestlers. It is to be noted
that Nick Petsel was able to help out
with some of the practices too, so
thank you Nick. Thank you very
much to the parents for getting
their kids to tournaments and
for supporting the Little Lions
Wrestling Club, We appreciate it
all so that the kids can have the
opportunity to enjoy this great
sport now and hopefaUy for years
to come.
