BCU is a member of the NAIA Division II and belongs to the Great Plains Athletic Con- ference (GPAC). Forbes was one of four sopho- more starters for the Chargers who finished 22-11 for the 2014- 2015 season and received an at- large invitation to the 32-team NAIA II National Tournament (March 11-17, 2015) in Branson, Missouri. BCU Lost their opening round game 68-66 to Davenport University (Michigan). Forbes was selected a Second- Team All-Conference guard by GPAC Coaches. He finished the season averaging 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He also led the team with 19 blocked shots and was second on the team with 42 steals. In 2013-14, Wichita State won a NCAA record 35-straight games before losing to eventual National Runner-up Kentucky in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. The Shockers' 35-1 record also shattered all of WSU's and the MVC's winning streak records, including Indiana State's 33-game record in 1977. WSU entered the NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed, a first for the program. Forbes came to Wichita State from Northwest Florida State, where he coached the Raiders to a 61-6 record during his two-year tenure in Niceville, Fla. Five of his junior college players recently transferred to Division I schools in the offseason. Forbes' Division I experience includes five years at Tennessee, two seasons at Texas A&M, one year at Illinois State and three years at Louisiana Tech and one year at Idaho. In the five seasons at Tennes- see, Forbes helped coach the Vols to an average of 26 wins per year, and advanced to four consecutive NCAA Tournaments - making three Sweet Sixteen appearances and advancing to the program's first-ever Elite Eight in 2010. The Vols won a school-record 31 games in 2008, and their 14-2 league record gave the program its first outright SEC champion- ship in more than 40 years. Fol- lowing a 66-62 win at top-ranked Memphis on Feb. 23, 2008, UT earned the first No. 1 ranking in school history Forbes' experience also helped Tennessee's 2006, 2008 and 2010 recruiting classes to a top 10 na- tional ranking by multiple ratings services. Forbes came to Tennessee after spending two seasons at Texas A&M, where he helped turn the Aggies from a team that had posted a 7-21 record the previous season and hadn't received a post- season invitation in 11 years, to a program that averaged more than 21 wins in his two seasons and advanced to postseason play both years. A&M posted back-to-back sea- sons with the most Big 12 Confer- ence wins in school history with Forbes on the bench. Well, the baseball season is under way. My Yankees won the first game and then lost four in row to sink into last place in the division. I'm not all shook up about it because I don't really pay attention to any pro sport. For the most part I find it is just something to have on TV that I can ignore and it will make some background noise while I'm read- ing a book or a magazine. The Kernels did get off to a good start by sweeping the Kane County Cougars over in the Chi- cago area last week. Maybe they can keep rolling for the season. The problem with them is the front office of their major league connecting team. The players who do well early in the season and get the team in the pennant race get moved to a higher classi- fication and the Kernels are then stuck with the also-rans. But, it's nice to see them off to a good start. Iowa State has ended its spring football practice and held its spring game. Iowa still has a couple of weeks to go before its spring game on April 25. Actu- ally, it's more like a practice ses- sion instead of game unless they changed the format this year. For the last few years they have just been running through some drills, have a limited scrimmage and give the kids chances to get autographs. I've seen, and been involved in, enough practice ses- sions in my life, I don't need any more. Of course, like everybody else, I have no idea how good Iowa will be this fall. After last fall's disap- pointments I hope they improve. If C. J. Beathard can get the job done at quarterback and a few other things jell I think they might do fairly well this fall. I think it will help that Iowa has just one established quarterback. There is an old saying in football that "When you say you have two first string quarterbacks then you don't have any." Another key factor, as it is with all sports teams, is to stay healthy The baseball team is still doing well although they are no longer unbeaten in the Big Ten. They are still in first place in the Big Ten. They have nothing but home By Ron Rife The Lone Tree Reporter games from now on to the end of the season except for the weekend of May 1, 2, and 3. They are home next weekend against Northwest- ern for three games, have a three game series with Nebraska on 24, 25, and 26 of April and then close at home with Minnesota on May 8, 9, and 10. The pathetic softball team has one home series left on May 1, 2, and 3, with Northwest- ern.
