UI offers entrepreneurship training for teachers
Iowa high school teachers
interested in incorporating entre-
preneurship education into their
classrooms can attend workshops
this summer sponsored by the
University of Iowa's John
Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center
OPEC).
The five two-day sessions are
being conducted in partnership
with the Iowa Area Education
Agencies statewide this summer.
Teachers can get the training and
use the curriculum during the
2001-2002 school year.
In addition to learning strate-
gies and methods for integrating
entrepreneurship into the class-
room, training participants receive
a BizBag loaded with curriculum
materials including textbooks, les-
son plans, quizzes and transparen-
cies. Teachers who choose to
implement the program are pro-
vided with a $300 teacher stipend
as well as classroom materials
including BizTech, an on-line
entrepreneurial learning program
for up to 30 students at no charge
to the school.
The UI program is open to all
Iowa high school teachers inter-
ested in, or currently teaching,
entrepreneurship. This program is
being taught in various classes,
some of which include careers,
foods, retail sales, business, mar-
keting, economics, agricultureas
well as entrepreneurship.
"One of the best things about
this program is it's adaptability"
said Dawn Bowlus, JPEC's Youth
Entrepreneurship Coordinator in
the UI Henry B. Tipple College of
Business.
