Page 3 The Lone Tree Reporter Thursday, March 14, 2013 The Path to State game in Solon on Saturday eve- ning, February 23, rolling out to a 24-11 first-quarter lead on their way to a dominating 68-55 win. "That's just hard work and dedication. Not just tonight, but for four years," said senior leader Bryan Forbes after the game. "Oh yah." Forbes led his team in the game, netting 39 points in an outstand- ing shooting performance that included 6-9 shooting from three- point range and a flawless 15-15 Continued... from page 2 free-throw shooting effort. The Lions had to battle a strong forward from Dunkerton, Kory Kuenstling, a 6'10" junior who av- eraged nearly 16 points per game for his team. Kuenstling got 15 points against Lone Tree to lead his team, but Forbes said his cousin Logan was key to the Lions' defensive plan. "Logan Forbes, plain and sim- ple," said Forbes. "He's under- sized but not strength-wise. He works harder than anyone on the team. We put him on a guy like that and that challenges him and he loves being more physical than everyone else." Squiers said his seniors weren't to be denied. "I had a sense last night, after the first quarter against Preston, the demeanor of those senior, since the Highland game really, that if we got past Preston I think we'd get there." "It feels great. Any time you go to Des Moines you feel great. It doesn't happen that often." Boyden-Hull 58, Lone Tree 54 Their only losses came from the undefeated Danville Bears and de- fending 1A Champions from Boy- den-Hull, and the Lone Tree boys finish their 2013 season at 25-2, after their first-round State Tour- nament appearance on Monday, March 4. Lone Tree head boys basketball coach Tom Squiers said finishing the season with losses to the top ranked team and the defending champions marks quite an accom- plishment. ... 2013 "One to the #1 ranked team in the State and another to the defend- ing State Champion," said Squi- ers. "Our kids got nothing to hang their heads about and I thought we battled Boyden-Hull tooth and nail the entire game. It's tough to knock off a defending State Champion. They're a great defensive team and they play man-to-man defense and they took some things away from us and that's kind of the story of the game." The L-T boys got an early lead, but then struggled offensively through the second and third quar- ters before unleashing 26 points in the final frame and losing by four, 58-54. "We struggled quite a bit often- sively, but I thought Boyden-Hull was a great defensive team. They made us work for every point, every shot that we got," said Squi- ers after the loss. Boyden-Hull advanced through the 1A Tournament, defeating North Tama, 77-52, and downing St. Mary's Storm Lake 49-45 in the finals.
