The Path to State... 2013
2013 Playoff
Season
Lone Tree 60, Springville 45
The Lone Tree boys cruised to
a win in their opening round of
Class 1A District 6 action against
Springville, going up 19-5 after
the first quarter and logging the
15-point, 60-45 post-season victory
The Lions got 18 points from
Bryan Forbes who was 4-11 from
the field with two three-pointers
and 8-10 from the free throw line.
He snagged a team-high nine re-
bounds and had five steals in the
win.
The Lions also got 15 points
from senior forward Gabe Lorack
and Logan Forbes and Andy Dod-
son both put in nine points.
Lone Tree 62, Highland 44
The Highland boys made it
tough at the start, outscoring
the Lions 15-8 in the first quarter
before the Lone Tree basketball
team came back in the second
quarter and cemented their win
with strong second-half play, 62-
44.
The Huskies had faced the
Lions twice during the regular
season and L-T coach Tom Squiers
said he knows it's tough to play a
team three times.
"It's tough to play a team three
times," admitted Squiers. "High-
land kind of surprised us with
that two-three zone and we tried
to shoot threes..."
The Lions got 22 points from
senior Bryan Forbes in the win, a
8-20 shooting performance and 6-8
from the free throw line.
Senior Gabe Lorack netted 12
points on 6-9 shooting and junior
Trenton Gosnell scratched out
11 points off the bench, going 3-9
from the field and 5-7 from the free
throw line.
Lone Tree 57, Preston 46
The Lone Tree boys cruised
into their District finals with a
full head of steam on February
22, and rolled over Preston, 57-46,
holding the Trojans to 20 second-
half points in a strong defensive
effort.
After snow delayed the game
one day, the Lions picked up
where they left off against High-
land on February 19.
The Lone Tree boys passed out
19 assists, showing their unselfish
team-play on the way to a District
Championship.
"They're pretty unselfish," said
Coach Squiers. "That's the way
we've been playing all year."
Squiers said his team moves
the ball around quickly to take
advantage of an opponent's zone
defense.
"They're playing zone so we
get the ball moving around," said
Squiers. "We got the ball moving
quickly, so when we skip the ball
out to the top that opens up the
post kids and those post guys did
a good job adjusting against their
zone."
