100 years ago
March 3, 1905
At the home of the bride's
parents, Frank Kral and Miss
Louisa Kranz were married.
The bride and groom will
reside on the Kranz farm down
near the chapel.
Nels Johnson has moved
down on John Rffe's place.
Mrs. Walter Crawford is
recovering from her recent ill-
ness.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Bert
Keeler on March 2, a nine
pound boy.
Ducks and geese have been
venturing north the past few
days, but they will probably get
cold feet and go back south.
"Cap" Atkins and family
have moved onto their farm
near Conesville. Wonder if
"Cap" won't have a nice water-
melon patch?
Tom Colbert and •family
moved over to the Mase
Roberts place, which they
recently purchased.
Did you pay your taxes?

William Eden came home
from Chicago Thursday and
reports a good sale on his car-
load of hogs.
WW Horrell and family left

Joe Lutz will occupy the
house vacated by Joe Shaffer
this week.
The Kalona City Council has
passed the franchise of the
Iowa City, Kalona, Washington

logue, which is now being
mailed out to customers.

March 3, 1955
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Forbes
are the parents of a son born
March 2 at Mercy Hospital.
Poll open at 12:00 for school
election. Up for re-election are
Gerald Brinkmeyer and Carl
Shingledecker.
Mrs. H.C. Buell phoned our
office early Monday morning
reporting that she had seen her
first Robin of the season. Mrs.
Buell reports that each year
about this time a robin builds a
nest in a tree in front of their
home,
Nancy Jarrard is honored at
a party for her sixteenth birth-
day.
A dinner to honor the girls'
basketball squad was held at
the Lloyd Canten home. Mr.
and Mrs. Darin Forbes helped.

Zaruba reached his long-await-
ed goal during Class 1-A
wrestler competition at the
Iowa State Wrestling Tourna-
ment at the Vets Auditorium in

Mrs. Loren Schaapveld has
been appointed to lead volun-
teers for a Bike-a,thon to be
held in the spring.
Finally, no more soup! The
sixth grade students' final
count was 9,471 labels from
Campbell's Soup products.
They will be sent to the compa-
ny and in return, will provide
each elementary class with a
Little Professor calculator.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor is hon-
ored at the Hoover House in
West Branch on their 35th wed-
ding anniversary after their
return to an open house in
Hills.

Firemen and First Respon-
ders have training to operate
the Physic-Control Life Pak 200
semi-automatic defibrillator.
Lone Tree Jazz Band tops
class A. The band will go to Des
Moines April 12th for the Iowa
Jazz Championship.
Death came to Jessie J.
'Sally' Smith, 73. She died at
Mercy Hospital. Service was
held at the Presbyterian
Church. Burial was at Cedar
Rapids.
The 'Wheel for Life ' for St.
Jude will be held'April 28th
this year.

Chamber discusses Habitat for Humanity
project and make plans for Fall Festxval

The Lone Tree Chamber of
Commerce held its regular
monthly dinner meeting on
Monday, February 21, at
Karen's Kones. After the meal,
the meeting was called to order
by President, Paul Hain, at 7:00
p.m.
It was moved by Wilbur Huff
and seconded by Ben Johnson
to approve the minutes of the
January meeting. Carried. It
was moved by Huff and second-
ed by Shelley Allison to
Lone Tree
Woman's Club
Nine members met on Feb-
ruary 17 to enjoy lunch at the
Lone Tree Dining Site.
A business meeting was
held following lunch, with
Margaret Rossman presiding.
Vivian Kirkpatrick present-
ed some interesting history of
Valentine's Day and customs
of the past in many other
countries.
The March 17 meeting will
be held at the Senior Dining
Site at noon, with Lillian
Angerer as hostess.

Hain gave the group a Fall
Festival update. It was moved
by Marvin Klebe and seconded
by Allison to have Lefty and the
Spinners as the Saturday night
entertainment. Carried. As of
now the Stumptown Shooters
are planning to put on a fire-
works show again. The Step-
pers group will be contacted
about performing again during
the parade and afterward. The
other usual events, such as
high school dance squads, the
egg toss, the clown, kiddie trac-
tor pull, Big Wheel races and
the Lions Club trolley rides, are
planned.
It was reported that the big

pletely fixed and working.
Again this month, due to lack
of information, no action was
taken on a possible ASA soft-
ball team banner.
Sandy Brown, Chairperson
for the local Habitat for
Humanity effort, reported that
there is a local effort to raise
$40,000 for the house, which is
expected to cost about $80,000.
Various fund-raising events
have been planned. It is
planned that work on the house
will begin this fall and be ready
for occupation by Christmas.
