We played very well at times
but were also a little rusty with

better as we went along and we

The Lone Tree girls basketball
team got a stellar performance from
senior forward Courtney Burr who
netted 20 points to lead her team to
a 50-32 win over the Wolves of Win-
field-Mt. Union.
Burr shot 7-12 from the field and
was 6-6 from the free-throw line in
the win. She had four steals and
passed out two assists.
Ella Feldman scored just two
points, but passed for five assists in
the win.
Madelyn Flemr scored in dou-
ble-digits, netting 13 points on 5-13
shooting including a 3-8 three-point
shooting effort. She grabbed four
rebounds, and had two blocks and
two steals in the game.
Elyssa Mills and Amanda Heit-
man both scored six points, and
Avery Edwards added one point
to round out the scoring for Lone
Tree.
Grand Lodge of Iowa
Announces Scholarships
The Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.E
& A.M. is pleased to announce
that two scholarship programs
are now available for 2011 gradu-
ating seniors from Iowa's Pub-
lic High Schools. Information is
available hoth from School Guid-
ance Counselors and on the Grand
Lodge of Iowa's website at www.
gl-iowa.org.
One scholarship program is
for graduating seniors from Iowa
Public High Schools who will
graduate in 2011 and plan to study
in an academic field. 60 scholar-
ships of $2,000 each will be award-
ed. Since the program's inception
in 1970, the Grand Lodge of Iowa
has awarded more than $2.4 mil-
lion in scholarships to 1.865 grad-
uating seniors from Iowa Public
tligh Schools all across the state.
The deadline for applications is
February 1,2011.
The second scholarship pro-
gram is the "Mark Earl and Es-
ther Ruth Spencer Technical
Scholarship" or MCEC Technical
Scholarship. Scholarships will be
awarded to graduating Iowa High
School seniors planning to enroll
in a mechanical or trade course of
study at an accredited Iowa Com-
munity College. 20 scholarships
of $1,250 each will be awarded.
This is the third year for this
scholarship. The deadline for ap-
plications is March 1, 2011.
Each year, Iowa Masons are
pleased to be able to award schol-
arships based on a student's aca-
demic performance, community
activities, leadership, and finan-
cial need from endowment funds
established to recognize the ac-
complishments of young Iowans
and to promote the education of
our future leaders.
2nd MLK Essay Contest
Students in grades second
through twelfth are invited to sub-
mit short essays about civil rights
and volunteerism for the 2nd An-
nual Statewide MLK Statewide
MLK Essay Contest. Divided into
three subgroups based on year in
sdooL studmts wI address what
they feel it means to make a differ-
ence, describe who their role mod-
els are and how those role models
inspired them to reach out to oth-
ers, or write a modern day speech
from the perspective of a nonvio-
lent civil rights movement leader.
Six winners, three from each
grade category, will be honored at
the State of Iowa Martin Luther
King, Jr. Celebration held at the
State Historical Building in Des
Moines on Momlay, January 17,
2011. The deadline for essay sub-
missions is Wednesday, January
