from page 1 and Zoning; David Smith - Work sessions were sched- showing the city s support of
three-year term on Planning uled for Jan. 23 to address pre- the "bottle bill." The Iowa DONATION
make a more informed deci-
sion.
If the program was discon-
tinued, the bus could be avail-
able on Mondays, Tuesdays
and Thursdays when it is used
for public transportation.
However, rides to the dining
site and back would cost $3
instead of $5 and there is no
guarantee the bus could be
reserved on those days. (Look
in next week's Reporter for in-
depth coverage of this issue.)
The council appointed the
following applicants to seats
open on city boards and com-
missions: Mitch Swinton
and Zoning; Randy Yakish -
five-year term on Board of
Adjustments; Virginia
Schlapkohl - two-year term on
Library Board; and Grynneth
Parizek - two-year term on
Library Board.
Joanne Havel, the new
mayor, reappointed Carl Kice
Brown as mayor pro-tern. She
also placed council members
on the following committees:
Buildings, Cemetery - Brown,
Wieland; Streets, Cable
Hayes, Lihs; Water, Sewer -
Schaapveld, Lihs; Police, Fire
Hayes, Schaapveld; and
Parks, Library Wieland,
viously tabled items such as
the possible curfew ordinance
and Jan. 30 to work on the
budget.
After some research at the
Cedar Rapids Public Library,
Wieland has found 25 organi-
zations that donate money to
parks. They are all in iowa,
which is the first place she is
looking for grants. These grant
programs will be discussed in
an upcoming Lone Tree
Foundation meeting, however
the city needs to decide how
much money it can budget for
park projects that could be
used as matching funds.
League of Cities asked that the
city pass the resolution as it
lobbies to keep and expand can
deposits. The grocers associa-
tion is currently lobbying to
discontinue the bill.
A claim by Jim Johnson for
damage done to his utility shed
by the city was accepted and
he will be reimbursed $100.
Several business owners
have expressed concern to Jeff
Lihs, council member, con-
cerning how Johnson County
handled break-ins at their busi-
nesses. He will be looking into
the matter.
